Happy Sticker
Ahrend R. Walters
January 2010

In the truck,
where a McDonalds receipt is stuck to the seat by a happy sticker,
I gaze and think and think:

Who are you and what are you doing?
What is your name and where will we be in a thousand years?

Will we be in heaven, and will we ride on the wings of seven eyed sparrows?
Or will we pass on the road tomorrow, never knowing we met,
as we drive past the old Batson catfish farm on twenty six,
where I got a ticket on Memorial Day last year?

Where are you now and what will you be doing tomorrow?

Can I ask a favor of you if youre not too busy?

After you get up and feed the cats in the morning,
and put your clothes in the dryer to get the wrinkles out before you shower,
will you gaze at the cardinals and magnolias out the window,
and will you recognize their existence,
hearing the message they bring from Mother Nature?

Will you take that message and deliver it to others?

Oh, and one more thing;
when you go to work will you give a smile to Miss. Quigg?

I know she is very difficult to work with and has the worst attitude,
but she needs you, your acknowledgement, your smile and love.
January 5, 2010
where do I begin lying in bed, in this dark shack, warm

do I whisper and hope youll hear,
you of today, tomorrow or of another era;
or do I lie and know you may never

should I close my gritty eyes
and forget the effort of telling,
the purpose of voice

as the chance of a poem being found, is few,
does this prayer matter

while fear lingers, and shame and disgrace,

could you look to the candle at this dark space,
and would you let it shine
would you let it shine and shine and shine,
forever love?
Strangled Birch Limbs
Ahrend R. Walters
December 30, 2009

O energy, it's nothing new;
its still pacing in this world of wonder,
as we keep working away with the axe,
but in a slightly different way than that of the olden days.

Were of a different type of work within my era,
unlike bees and small blossoms on old birch limbs,
were more like slugs slithering on damp tarnished stop signs.

Where is Gods beauty drifting,
like a leaf in the wind is almost unheard of?
Is it on passing or transforming into something different?

This leads me to wonder:

What are the ashes of beautiful antique clocks whirling into?
Have they become or are they becoming
the origin of business cards, marketing sighs,
or dozers that rip away at the remains of old murdered family farms?

How could this be the era of my choice,
this dumpster, this time of such spiritless mindsets?
Is this the very cause of anti-depressants;
how we people are strangling true life,

Gods indescribable beauty?
Christmas Prose Poem

As Christmas Continues Near

while many shoppers pass the true meaning so hastily, in an outlet mall, you can hear the sound of Christmas music playing, maybe even John Williams' version of Carol of the Bells, a cool breeze blows and its getting darker, people are chatting about possible snow as they walk down the strips, seeing Christmas lights, holiday banners and hearing laughter, children all bundled up amazed by colors and trees with fake snow, while thinking about Santa, what he might bring, and then you notice those children who know Santa isnt coming, because their parents, or if you would even call them parents, are only shopping for their selves

you may be done with your Christmas shopping by now, ready to go home after an exhausting day of hustling and bustling and you leave the mall, you sit at a red light hearing Christmas bells in your thoughts and feeling love for those who are less fortunate, remembering those poor children you just saw, the light is green now and you drive away from city lights, passing warm homes and smelling the soothing smell of burnt wood, you pull into the driveway, your car heater is blowing and the last bit of condensation evaporates off your windshield, you park and get out of the car, you are finally home with much relief

the door is opened, you see your family, your children run to you or grandchildren, significant other, husband or wife, father or mother, and you are overjoyed, you give them a hug and you smell Christmas spices in the air, the aroma is like freshly baked cookies and cinnamon, you see candles and a nativity scene staring at you on top of an antique piano, while embracing another with love, time stands still at this moment and you realize how grateful you are for your family, you think about Jesus there so lowly in a manger, all the children who are less fortunate, and you remember this as Christmas continues near

Letter, November 5th 2009

We humans have a need for each other and God uses our relationships to touch our lives. An amazing poet, named Stephanie Lombardo, has been a friend of mine for over a year and a half now. She and I met while working at the Disney store.

Stephanie and I share many of the same creative and emotional sensibilities, and can relate to the intense feelings and open perceptions that most emotional individuals experience and witness.

Over the last two months Stephanie has struggled through a poignant break-up. She has had, and still has many passions wrapped in her love for a beautiful and talented young girl with whom she has been with for about a year.

It is true that people find Gods comfort in an assortment of different ways. Not everyone finds the peace and comfort of God through a simple prayer or by attending church, but some find the comfort of God through their very association with others. I know this to be true for Stephanie and I.

The other night I was able to spend some time with Stephanie, and in our midst I could feel the peace of God blanketing over the moment. We werent at church or in a conventional prayer setting, but were at her cozy and simple home late one evening after work. The moment was soothing for both of us. We both had the company and understanding of one another, and dwelled in knowing we werent alone.

Next time you are misunderstood, hurting or are faced with an emotional struggle, remember the time Stephanie and I shared, and how in our midst God made himself available through the time we shared.

Below are a couple of poems that Stephanie and I wrote that night of November 1st. We hope you find the peace we found in that beautiful and soothing moment.

Collective Brainwaves

By: Stephanie R. Lombardo

Thud, thud, thud,
The loose fan swings about
With a tic-toc of the clock
In a peaceful rhythm
Two poets, friends, companions,
Spilling our souls together on paper.
You are here for me
And I for you,
We feed off each other.
The lead of your pencil
Defacing your paper,
Screaming out the thoughts of your heart.
Taking pauses brief enough only to smile,
This silence is comforting.
And I wish it to last longer
But oh, the tic-toc of that clock.

Smile Forever

By: Ahrend R. Walters

While sitting on the couch, dead silence.
After hearing your words, your spirits words and laughter,
My unquenchable soul so thirsty finds the water of the seas,
The taste of honey in your midst.

And oh, what a sigh of relief I stress here,
On after stress and stress, that you will heed the song,
The very song I thirst for and will smile,
Forever smile.

God,The Tree Of Life

By: Ahrend R. Walters

1. Apples-	----------Infinite, multiplied by itself,

1. Pears-	Then divided by every perspective dwelling in the eyes of every soul,

1. Oranges-	Universe,

1. Peaches-	And story.

1. Plums-	Do you feel the truth expanding beyond your imagination,

1. Figs-	Beyond all understandings at this creation of chaos thats appearing

1. Whales- In your mind?

Well, you have it, this is God,
the living masterpiece that never yields for a second So we can grasp just one bitty inch of the reality we all live in, the reality we call Life.

So being that youve now seen the on loving vastness of God,
dont be so quick to Make a decision,
or to voice the options that need to be voiced.
Although you must Stand for something, dont be too quick to decide, because when you take the Chance and choose, youll find an opposing force reflecting the other side of the Masterpiece,
the other side which you never saw.
And youll be back to the place You were, at the beginning of this poem.

Searching for love? Hes here; our God forever infinite----------

Gerard M. Hopkins was born in 1844, and died during the year of 1889. He was an English poet, and was educated at Oxford. In 1866 he entered into the Catholic Church and the Jesuit novitiate in 1868. He then became ordained in 1877.

After becoming a Jesuit, Hopkins burned his poetry and abandoned his poetic talent for many years. However, the sinking of a German ship carrying five Franciscan nuns gave him much inspiration and inspired him to write once again. Some of his best poetry includes, Gods Grandeur, The Windhover, The Golden Echo, and much more.

Hopkins lived a troubled life, always fighting inner conflictions, which aroused from an inability we all face, the inability to give ourselves completely to God.

Hopkins is by far one of my most favorite poets. The first time I ever heard of Hopkins was two years ago when my friend and writer Tom Gilbert (www.your-life-your-story.com), while working on a project with me, considered my poetry and Hopkins' poetry to have similarities.
Both Hopkins and I are spiritual writers in tune with God and the natural world around us. Ive not only felt that I could relate to the heart of Hopkins, but have also found it written that he struggled with many of the same challenges I struggle with today. Among them are, his suppressed sexuality and how he felt his spiritual existence and poetic existence in some instances clashed, as so did I when I first started writing poetry, until I realized that both the spiritual and poetic aspects of my life complement each other in infinite ways.

One of my most favorite poems by Hopkins is, Pied Beauty and Gods Grandeur. It was these poems that brought me into a passionate love with the poetry of Hopkins. These poems are alive with a lyric passion, and resonates the immense heart that pounded in the depths of Hopkins' soul.

Gods Grandeur
By: Gerard M. Hopkins

The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
        It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
        And all is seared with trade; Bleared, smeared with toil;
And wears man's smudge and shares man's smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.
And for all this, nature is never spent;
        There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.

This poem always takes my breath away. It is so powerful, now what does this song from Hopkins cry to you?

"In The Eyes Of Dees Hall"

Sometimes I love to enjoy the simple things God gives us. Yesterday after class I took some time and enjoyed crushing acorns that fell after a storm.

In The Eyes Of Dees Hall

A crunch beneath the trees-
A crack- a crush-
After showers
From where

Beneath the oaks
I paced
To step on each
There calling

acorns-
amazed
gusted forth
once settled haze

I enjoyed the circles
around and round
and every nut
from the ground

Letter, September 22nd 2009

The other evening while waiting for Phillip to get off work, the sky was overcast and boats were peacefully resting in the distant gulf water. It was a beautiful moment, one that could never be captured in the very way that it was at that instant. I noticed collections of seagulls, beautiful clouds, pigeons and a refreshing breeze. There were families and children and lovers. And the way the posts from the old pier peeked out the water, it was like a perfect painting. I felt like I was in the making of a dream.

As explained, the moment was indescribable, but akin to a lone blossom in a forsaken pasture, it was all overlooked. Cars passed hastily as they do, so eager for the next mile, and on to the next and next. Everyone around me was oblivious to the gracious splendor that thrived in front of my eyes, and this saddened me. The picture unfolding was majestically profound, and I wanted everyone to notice it. I wanted everyone to realize that standing before us was a remarkable piece of life, but oblivious they remained.

As I sat gazing out into the ocean, distraught that no one acknowledged the beauty God placed within that moment, I noticed a person walking towards me on the side walk which ran parallel to the beachfront. The person was wearing a white t-shirt, but I couldnt really make anything else out about them. The person was alone, no friend to confide in. I wasnt sure if it was a man or a woman. The person was too far for my eyes to see.

As the person paced closer and closer, I recognized it was a homeless man with long hair. He was in his thirties, had a bag over his shoulder and stared at his feet and the pavement while walking, only to glance to his right side occasionally. His hair was wet. It may have even been greasy, but it was beautiful how it blew in the wind near the sandy shore.

In a way this homeless man reminded me of Jesus. You know the pictures you see when you are a child, the pictures where Jesus has long hair and a slight beard. You usually find them in devotional booklets and sometimes on the walls in churches. Yes, that was exactly the way this man looked. And the way he stared deep in my eyes as he steadily walked passed, I cant describe it. It was a beautiful thing, his eyes. It was something that most people never see in a lifetime. It was as beautiful as beauty itself. Was it God?

"Saturday's Hum"

This poem was written this morning before I had to be at work. Ive always felt something special about Saturday. It has a special hum. I hope you enjoy this poem and I hope it sets a relaxing mood for your weekend.

Saturday's Hum

By: Ahrend R. Walters

It's cozy
And I crave for God
You can hear Maple barking
And the roosters crowing

Youll hear some Saturdays are hushed
Sometimes theyre rainy
But other times
as a Saturday morning

But what is it that makes Saturday
Is it the fact that its Saturday
Or is it the fragrance
The taste of King Vitamin

while the AC hums
and coffee
in the distance
if youll listen

no sound at all
like this morning
theyre just as bright
cartoon

so different
& I get to sleep in a bit
of my childhood
before dawn

"Rainy Days"

Sometimes simple poems satisfy me. This little poem I wrote after history class. The weather was rainy and I could feel God's peace. It was light blue, almost gray, and it really soothed my spirit

Rainy Days

By: Ahrend R. Walters

It's days like this
That offer
And lullaby's
That you

As you heard
While
The calming sheets
The quiet

of showers
cozy rooms
so mellow
would want to snooze

the rythem
the clouds released
for lending
and holy peace

Letter, September 7th 2009

Its always been challenging for me to understand how to be a Christian, and yet of the world. It seems Im always faced with either falling into the sinful nature of others, or pushing others away when Im too serious about the rules we are taught to embrace as believers.

God wants Christians to be approachable. I also believe He wants us to associate with those who have no morals, cuss, hate, have addictions, and are just of a darkened spirit. But how do we live obediently and still connect with these people? How can we associate with others in a loving and fun way, without sending the Im holier than thou vibe, and without being pulled into the selfish way of living?

Im finding that being a Christian is to be part of the world, while practicing faith, unconditional love, and liberality. Not to disown the world, judge the world, or to isolate ourselves from it. But to step out, to mingle and to love those who are more worldly than what we think is acceptable. To me,this is being a Christian.

Im aware that its written that Christians are not of the world, and I agree, we arent. But to make a difference in our society we have to connect with all people, and this requires being actively a part of our community, our world. Not just the Christian community, but our community as a whole.

We cant continue to distance ourselves from those seeking for the answer; if we do, it is impossible for Christ to be found in the lives of non-believers. We are the body of Christ, yes you and I, and it is important that we go and become one with others. Today, I encourage you to share in their songs. Being a Christian doesnt mean we have to agree with their words, but that we find beauty in their melodies.

Letter, September 2nd 2009

We were all created differently. We each have experienced different things, have been placed in uncontrollable circumstances, and are all unique genetically. So why do we always feel the need to label right and wrong. Why do we always look through the eyes of judgment when we each have different needs and understandings?

I dont believe it's Gods intent for us to look at each other through a perspective of right and wrong, but for us to take each other for what we are, and to show unconditional love.

Today in Sociology, I learned that although there are things we dont necessarily agree with, or understand in the lives of others and in society, they serve some type of purpose or they wouldnt exist. However, we dont have to see eye to eye with all these things, but I believe we should at least try to open our perspectives and attempt to seek for some type of understanding.

I believe that Jesus looks at us in a compassionate way. I believe when He view us, He understands why we are the way we are. Today, I encourage you to openly examine a position you wouldnt normally agree with, and try to understand it. Try to be as our loving Savior, and attempt to understand what you would usually deem as an imperfection or unacceptable.

I entitled this poem,"Let's get it on", because "Let's get it on" was the song on the radio the morning this poem took place. If you'll listen to the youtube clip below as soft background music, while you read the poem, you will sense the joyful sensation I flet the morning of this experience.

"Let's get it on"

I pressed snooze
Then right before my eyes
I was running late
Had a greasy mess for hair
Morning nice

At seven forty
The pedal floored
I faced the day
While dreaming of

Rested peace
though the morn
I beat the clock
Suprised that I
Margaret At.
They laughed that I

at six thirty
I woke in panic
got a half-hearted brush
then out the door and 2 the truck
and weather fair

wheels met road
as county mowed
with Marvin Gaye
an autumn hay

with pastured mare
seemed not to care
and reached the room
had time to read
and dear Miss Brill
had time to kill

Letter, September 1st 2009

What does it mean to be a Christian? Many believe being a Christian is a life focused on sin and how to overcome it. Conversely, I disagree. I believe being a Christian is far more than a life focused on sin, and lectures on how to overcome our sinful nature. I believe Christianity is more about a daily walk with love, and helping others to understand what this means. The most important aspect of Christianity is love, and I believe it is so often overlooked by those who focus too much on our transgressions.

Many individuals, radio stations, pastors and believers focus more on what we need to do as Christians that they often forget about what Jesus offers us through a spiritual walk with Him. Jesus is not only about sin, sin, sin, sin, and sin. However, He does want us to grow and become more like Him, but above all I believe He wants us to find His love, understanding and forgiveness. And He wants us to help spread our understanding of this amongst others.

It is never encouraging to get up in the morning, turn on the radio, and hear relentless preaching. I get nothing from those that scream at me. Instead of listening, I tend to turn to a different station. I get far more when I hear someone speak of communities, faith groups and loving people that are making a difference in our world. It is uplifting and inspiring to hear the good things Christ followers are doing through the love of God.

Ive always written serious poems. Thats a lot of what I enjoy writing, but for some reason Ive always had this outlook that I have to be serious to help others discover the love of God. Nonetheless, as Ive grown in my relationship with God; Ive come to realize that God is more than serious. He has a sense of humor and He wants to use it to lighten us up a bit. Being stressed and worrisome all the time is not what God intends. So dont be surprised when you start seeing poems that are more random, fun and comical. The poem below is titled,Lets get it on. Who knows, It could be God jollying us up a bit from a worrisome and stressful day.

Of letters words
Forth on with me
Past the waging
There sails a ship
It waits for us
It filled with poems
It far beyond

Do you see it
With anchors pulled
With times for thought
At strong

Come with me, hear
Of letters words
to better thoughts
night

where oceans merge
at far
and further laughs
the shore

moving bare
and breeze
and questions posed
philosophies
let's take a swim
it waits for us
During our lives we all fall short of what is expected. And its a vital part of our rebirth that we have support when we break from the chains that keep us from our God given talents and purpose.

Although there are individuals that are dream killers, and there are those that strive to keep us from what God intends; there is hope. God gives us families, friends and fans to encourage and uplift us in our times of need.

Today, I feel it is my duty as a fan of Whitney Houston, to uplift a talent that I believe is a blessing to the entire world. I dedicate this poem to Whitney, and wish her the best as she courageously comes back to bless us all, once again, through her music.

To No Reply

My heart
It gives to no reply
But is it heard like the birds
And the seas are heard by the sands
While cycles continue
While struggling fallen voices
Like days run after days
At this moment
In the midst of all unknown
Their dreams
They the fallen stars
It lives for them
There the victory the defeat

so gives
at every moment Im alive
are heard by the trees
this I wonder
and voices seek
seek
and after days to be heard
at this very moment
they deserve compassion
all understandings and love
from God
which could be us
the win
Why is life such a challenge for each of us? Why do we have our imperfections and why do obstacles always draw near? We may never know the answer to these questions, but I believe everything in existence happens for a reason. I believe all things good and bad exist to stretch and grow us spiritually and intellectually.

Throughout my life Ive witnessed and continue to witness that adversity will always appear. Its a cycle. Well continue to have high points, low points, times of failure and times of victory. This is just living. Well never escape this inevitable circle of life. Well never escape our own imperfections or the imperfections of others.

Its true that were all imperfect people and that our imperfections affect everyone. Imperfections are not just our opinions alone, but the meaning of imperfection is different for all. What you may think as imperfect, may not be imperfection to me. I think that imperfect people are perfect. However, you may think differently! Lol!

As you know, the imperfections of our lives can cause worry; heartache, disappointment and suffering. Nonetheless, instead of looking at the imperfections of others and the imperfections of yourself as a negative; go rejoice! There are many blessings that result because were all imperfect people!

Letter, August 25th 2009

I started back to school this past Friday. Yes, ready to push through another semester. Today was the first day I met my new Tuesday/Thursday class. Im currently taking classes that will transfer to William Carey University. Its my goal to attain a bachelors and masters degree there, and then on to another university for my doctorate. My major is of course English (creative writing: poetry).

Although my major is English, its required that I take some type of physical class to graduate. Ive always had a desire to care for my body. I try to eat healthy, stay active and aim everyday to fulfill my purpose. So in a way I was excited to know that I would be attending a walking class this semester.

Even though many of us desire to be healthy, by eating a balanced diet and exercising daily; we often fall short of the goals we strive for. A lot of the times its not our fault. It may be that our jobs are too demanding or time is scarce. This often forces us to go for convenience, but as you know, convenience is not always the best.

During my first eight O clock walking class the weather was cool and the morning was peaceful. I could even hear the beautiful birds singing in the distance. Today our assignment was to walk four laps around the track. The instructor also informed us that we could jog if we so desired.

I chose to both walk and jog today. I jogged three laps then walked three laps. While jogging, I couldnt help but to think about my dear friend Tom. He is very health conscious and goes out for a jog every morning. Not to mention that he will be running in a 13 mile marathon this upcoming October. Click here to find out about Tom and the upcoming marathon.

Tom has always expressed that his morning jogs are in some way spiritual. I know many of you are wondering, How can a jog be spiritual. Well, during my brief jog this morning I experienced the spiritual aspect Tom has discovered. It was fresh, cool, and filled with peace. It was a time of meditation alone with God. It was like I wasnt even jogging. During the jog I was becoming healthier physically, mentally and spiritually. I was truly blessed! Yes,I confirm, God can truly bless through a jog. A jog does embrace somthing spiritual.

Beautiful colors, pumpkins, gourds, family gatherings, and a cool light breeze; these are just a few of the spices that make autumn so special to me. Do you ever get a good feeling when a new season approaches? Do you ever get a feeling that you cant describe or that uplifts your spirit and fills your heart with peace and joy? If so, Im sure youre wondering, What are these feelings?

I have to admit that with the coming of each new season I always find good feelings serenading me. I believe these are offerings from God, and I believe He gives these as gifts to us all. Its always been Gods desire to bless us, and He does this in various ways. Sometimes Hell bless us through another, sometimes through what we think is mere coincidence, but one simple and special way I believe He chose to bless us, is through seasons.

If you havent ever sensed the feelings Ive here mentioned, I encourage you today to seek and discover these special gifts. Autumn is soon to arrive, and she is absolutely a season with many blessings. When you spot the leaves changing, feel the cool breeze, and attend the family gatherings, look deep within the moment and find that special gift from God.

As you know we have control over many aspects of our lives. However, there are also those aspects by which we have little to no control over. When we arent in control, than who is? Many believe God is in control, and there are those that disagree and believe if we arent in control than no one is.

Its my belief that God is in control of the uncontrollable. I believe He uses the uncontrollable to steer us down new paths, to open up our perspectives, and to even help us learn to trust in Him.

Should we ever fear the fact that we have no idea what tomorrow will bring? Should we fear how our choices or the choices of others could affect us? I dont believe God wants us to worry. Instead, I believe He wants us to place our trust in Him, with the belief that He will use every circumstance to benefit all.

I checked my e-mail two days ago and received a message from a kind and encouraging lady. Her name was Feon Davis. In the e-mail she expressed that she read some of my poetry and that she could relate to my compassion and faith in God's word. She also expressed that she too is a poet and that she writes Christian poetry. She considers her poems to be prayer poems.

During her e-mail she spoke of her web-site and invited me to visit. After making the visit to her site, I found that her poetry was like a meadow of sweet blossoms on a soft but sunny day. Chills even trickled down my arms, legs and back, and I could feel the presents of God with every passing word of her poetry. Her writing brought me into a spiritual moment.

I really enjoyed her poem Happiness. Happiness was a very short and simple poem, but to me it was certainly an affirmation that simplicity holds a beauty that cant be revealed through complexity.

Happiness also revealed how God allows there to be many origins of great joy. It showed that happiness is more than just happiness, but that it is candy, friendships, smiles, love, a chat, hugs and flowers. All of these things certainly generate happiness and uplift the spirit.

The poems and heart of this compassionate and faithful poet truly make me smile. I am thankful for her brilliant faith and touching expressions. I encourage you to visit her web-site. Feon Davis is a talent, and better yet an astounding instrument of Gods.

Yesterday was my day off from work, and it was a soothing day. I sat on the porch a while, soaked in the serenity, and then feed the animals. I was able to get a lot of writing done too. Actually, I completed three poems. The titles of the new poems are as follows, The Fence, Deemed Flaws and Every Dove and Choir.

The poem Every Dove and Choir was inspired by a peaceful nativity that took place. Yesterday, one of my doves hatched an egg. The poem imperceptibly celebrates this new life, and ultimately celebrates that God is life. In the poem you will find a soul reaching out for God, and a heart yearning for peace from the depths of Gods understanding.

Its my held belief that God is all things sweet and wonderful. He is all beauty and I find him in every living creature. To me, God is nature and all wildlife. I dont believe this to the degree that I worship animals as God, but I believe that nature and animals are representatives of God. I believe His love dwells within them, therefore revealing God to all.

Not only do I celebrate life in an imperceptible way during this poem, but I express the intense desire I have for God to dwell in me. I have a passion for God, an admiration for nature, and a genetic make-up to be one with those I love. This is fully expressed throughout this poem, Every Dove and Choir. I hope you enjoy it.

Every Dove and Choir
-Ahrend R. Walters

Lord dwell in me, ye every bird, ye woods, creeks and seas. O take and understand my woes. Make them a soothing breeze. As though Ill never figure out what contradictions pave, ye comprehend forth on beyond the worries that do rave. Here in this troubled heart of mine, does sing my long desire, for you dear God to rest within, ye every dove and choir.

Wow! It has been a while since Ive written an Imperfect Letter. The days go by so quickly, as daily struggles and responsibilities wrap me up. Im sure you can relate.

However, through this experience Im learning how to endure for what God has called me to do. Even though there come times when it is difficult to work towards my calling, I keep focused, continue striving, and remain dedicated. I consider all that I do as part of my mission, everything from work, school to overcoming daily struggles.

Just because I havent written an Imperfect Letter in a while, doesnt mean Ive forgotten about my purpose or havent written poetry. Over the past month Ive written many poems and am still as dedicated to the mission as I was from day one. Ive also been busy working, going to school and tending to my brood of critters.

I intend to get back into the swing of writing Imperfect Letters. You can look forward to finding more letters on this blog. Ive just finished working on the newly released book, Believer Poet, a project that consumed much of my times. Ive also completed my first semester in college. I now have more time to dedicate to this website and to writing.

Letter, April 22nd 2009

Today is Earth Day, a day set aside for us to reflect on the importance of nature, and the ways we can help to free her from human harm.

Every day in my opinion, should be Earth Day. I know that for me, I attempt to be conscientious of how my actions can affect our planet, and the beautiful creatures that reside here with us. Although I may not always make the right choices, making an effort to help our planet is better than not attempting at all.

In our society, we are in many ways forced to inflict harm on our world. A lot of the destructions we cause are not always by choice, but rather by necessity. I dont have the money to buy a lower polluting car, like a hybrid; therefore Im polluting the air when I drive my truck to work, school, or to a local feed store.

Even though our destructive patterns cant be changed instantly, there is still hope. If we will come together, keep faith in God, and love our world by showing compassion toward nature and animals, we will make a difference. Gradually we will see change, positive change, and a world filled with beauty, brightness and life!

Letter, April 3rd 2009

We all hold an opinion about something. We each have our own perspectives about God, life and its meaning. A lot of these perspectives were not originally our own, but were taught to us at childhood, or were influenced by another. Whose opinion is right; what opinions are wrong? Do we all have flaws in our beliefs? Are all of our opinions a piece to the big puzzle? These are questions Ive ask myself, to only discover that well never find every answer until we meet our maker, the Divine Beauty, the Lord of all immensity, the King of kings, Jesus Christ.

As a child I grew up in the church, and was always taught what was right and wrong in Gods eyes; but as Ive matured in faith, Ive began to question these teachings. This questioning has not only caused much stress, but has helped me grow towards the loving person God wants all of us to become. Through questioning, Ive broken away from the narrow way of thinking, and have come to ponder and believe possibilities such as, everything in life is for a reason, and God created all things to work together for an ultimate good.

Throughout my young life, Ive often confused religion with spirituality. I would take religious teachings and would apply them to my life. If I were to go against these teachings I would feel much guilt. Ive always thought this feeling to be God pulling me back to His Holy Law; until one day I realized there was a possibility it was not.

I dont believe religion is the best way to commune with God. I view religion as a set of beliefs, and rules that one must follow. I believe that most religions and religious teachings are used more as a means to control people, instead of providing a way for one to discover who our infinite and loving God truly is. Nonetheless, I believe religion can be a good thing. It can give individuals direction; but like anything, it can be harmful.

Letter, April 1st 2009

God created us all for a reason. And inevitably, we each will encounter problems from this purposeful person God created us to be. Our very strengths can all too often become our own weaknesses, when we dont know how or where to apply our abilities (strengths). As a result from this, many individuals grow to hate themselves and live through life feeling worthless.

A lot of times, people who feel worthless dont understand why they feel the way they do. And on the other hand, some will say its because of past failure. I dont believe those who fail realize theyve failed because of a God given strength. I believe they just feel its because theyre weak.

Do people have feelings of worthlessness because theyre truly a weak person, useless or hold no value? I think not. All of Gods creations hold significance; every person, tree, planet, star and beyond. They all have special strengths and capabilities too, so they can achieve purpose through their existence.

You may wonder, How can we prevent our God given strengths from working against us? How can we find the purpose God has for our abilities? Ive learned that having a strong faith grounded in Christ, and acting on what He wants out of us, is how to keep our strengths and abilities on the right path. This is truly a way for them to find their God given purpose.

Letter, March 25th 2009

As I stood on the porch of my Shack, a few days before spring emerged. The doves cooed soothingly. While I stood admiring my surroundings, the sun gave bursts of brightness that instantly faded with every passing cloud. The cats were lounged about the porch; on tops of trash cans and on lawn chairs. Even the air condition buzzed, which was calming.

I remember it was here that I thought to myself, There is something so special about nature. She is by far one of Gods loveliest creations. Theres something extraordinary about her tunes, blossoms, winds, and rains. Theres something soul quenching about her colors, snows and beautiful cranes. Theres a harmony about her rocks, mountains and majestic trees. What is it, I thought? Its of her creeks, rivers and hasty bees.

Even as a child I found an immense feeling of peace residing about wilderness and wildlife. This peace has always brought my emotions into an elation of freedom, tranquility, comfort and hope. This peace I find dwelling within nature, is unlike any other. I cant describe it with human language. The only words I have for it is earthed in the melodic expressions of birds. Ive always believed this beautiful and indescribable peace about nature, to be God.

After pondering on this exclusive peace, I decided to go on an excursion to a nearby creek that flows behind the Poet Shack. I wanted to reach the peaceful sentiment that I believe is God. I wanted to feel it shower over me like a summers evening rain. I wanted to be engulfed by it!

Letter, March 23rd 2009

Today hasn't been a good day. I've found that I owe the school money I don't have, and if it's not paid by March 30th, I'll be dropped from my classes. Not only that, but the checking account will also be in the negative soon, and of course, more charges will apply. No gas for the week either, and food is scarce. Not to mention I have an essay due in the morning that is not complete.

Do you ever have days like this; when everything that seems could go wrong, does? These days come as no surprise to me. I find that they appear more often than I would like, but I cant help to think about how blessed I still am, even in the midst of such adversity.

I am blessed to have a loving God, loving friends, an abundance of loving animals, and someone who accepts and loves me for me. I am blessed to be alive today, and to have the opportunity to rejoice during such calamity. Although today, and even the week may not be easy; I always remember that God is with us.

If you are faced with similar difficulties, or maybe your hardships are even more severe than mine; dont forget that God is with you. He dwells in every moment, at every place. I especially find His presents within the beauties of nature, and its different seasons.

I think today that Ill take a visit to the creek. If you too are stressed, worried, or frightened, I encourage you to come with me. Whether it be by watching the beautiful YouTube clip below, or taking a walk into the great outdoors. Im confident that together well find the peace that come from God. He truly is the beauty of summer, autumn, winter, spring.

Do you ever regret times of your past? Do you ever wish you could re-live parts of your life? I believe we all have regrets and yes it would probably make us feel a lot better to go back and re-live the areas where weve fallen short. Im sure we would all change many things.

However, what Ive discovered about the times we agonize over, is that although those times may be painful for us and the others involved, they have purpose. A lot of the mistakes weve made were us giving into temptation, and us giving into temptation doesnt only bring about bad. It brings about good it we choose to grow from these experiences.

A lot of people wish the bad times never existed, Im one of them. But instead of hating those times of regret, Ive found to be grateful for them. Without imperfections and sin we would not learn more of what God expects from us, and I know I wouldnt be at the place God has me today.

Instead of beating yourself up over your past shortcomings, be grateful and see how God has and continues to use those times to mold you. You are a GREAT person, and through many ways God is making you better every day; even through ways you least expect.

It brings pain to my heart and pierces my soul when I notice nature crying. I find tears falling down her cheeks every time I witness animals or the natural world being disrespected. Is there a way to stop natures pain? Is there a way to stop the harsh abuse we humans inflict on our natural world and wildlife? I cant help but to ask these questions every time I notice someone littering, hear of abuse to animals, or witness the destruction of wildlife habits.

We are all trapped in the routines of daily life. We are all ensnared in this greedy world where were pressed for time, occupied with daily responsibilities, and have to associate with the artificial world and its endeavors to survive and function properly. But is there a way to stop the unintentional abuse lifes pressures and greed cause us to inflict on our natural world? Is there a way we can stand up for the setting of our lives, to save humanity from doom?

Although we cant break away from the negative direction our world is headed; we can all help to change it by encouraging others to be more considerate of nature and wildlife. Even though the majority of individuals will not take our advice, because of the greed which resides within humanity; together we can make a difference. We can slow the destructive process inflicted on nature, and we can bring hope to our world and to the creatures which reside here in it, if well keep faith in Christ and become a voice for the voiceless wild.

Its always piercing to my soul, when I hear about cruel treatment being inflicted on animals. Its even more upsetting to know this treatment could be happening to animals so close to home. After watching the Nightline episode on March 4th, in regards to the New Iberia Research Center in Louisiana, I couldnt finish my dinner; I was horrified.

If animal cruelty is happening in Louisiana it needs to be stopped, or better yet, the whole operation needs to be shut down if the lab cant give animals the treatment they deserve. How could someone treat animals so cruelly? Animals are gifts from God, and they deserve both love and respect.

In our world, there are so many beliefs, options, religions, lifestyles and genetics. Our universe is such a random place with so much mystery. Have you ever wondered, which path do I take, which religion do I follow, or what lifestyle do I live? Have you ever thought, What is the answer to life, or what is the right choice to make?

Well fellow travelers, I believe we all ask these questions. Some of us may not admit to the fact, but weve all wondered about the, right way, to live. I dont believe its always thought about in a moral or spiritual sense, but weve all wondered about it, Even if the thought was just for the sake of our own happiness.

While on this life journey, Im discovering many things about life, God, and others. Im even coming to a better understanding of the true, right way, to live, and its not bashing others for their choices, or passing judgment. Im discovering that the one particular right way, to live, is simply loving others, the way God loves us.

Loving others is the "right way", because It allows everyone to peacefully fulfill their task as humans, and to contribute their verse unto all the worlds. By loving others, regardless of options, beliefs, lifestyles, or genetic make-up, we come to realize that the, right way, truly doesnt exist, and that accepting each other and loving each other for what we are, is key.

Is there only one way to learn from God? Is learning from God always easy, or can it be difficult? How does God teach? Does He teach through multiple ways, or only through one?

Ive learned that God teaches through one way, and that way is through many. Gods teaching method is simply not having one. He is always trying new things to teach us about life, His truth, and loving others. God is constantly stretching and growing us every day.

The ways that God teaches may not always be the easiest way for us, but it is often the only way to get our attention. Think about the hard times. Think about when circumstances arise and leave us hopeless, lost, and despaired. Why does God allow this to be? Why doesnt He instantly intervene? Could it be that it takes this pain and the feeling of abandonment for us to turn to Him?

God works through people, circumstances, experiences, and scriptures. Do you know that He is teaching you now? You probably didnt even recognize it. Isnt this cool how He works without us ever knowing it!

Throughout this week try to tune in to how God is teaching you. When hardships arise try to discover the lesson He has hidden within. He is always at work in our lives even when we least expect it. What will be our next lesson?

Behind the Shack a small flowing creek trickles. I take pleasure in walking this creek where I find many treasured beauties. When I climb down the embankment and finally reach my destination. I hear the beautiful songs of birds, and if Im despaired God lifts me into a season of serenity. Here my heart is filled with peace and hope.

Im often overtaken by emotions when I come face to face with nature. Even the cold glistening waters fill my soul with love and inspiration. I cant describe the sensations I feel when I inhale the sweet scent that serenades the creek. It is a meek aroma of flourished dew and soil. The pollens even add a spice to the mix. The blend is uniquely its own.

If you are ever down and despaired I tell you nature is waiting. She is waiting with open arms for you to come and find peace. Our father resides within her existence, which enables her to uplift us into a world of hope. We are never alone. God dwells within the songs of birds, and the waters that flow.
