What is a Believer Poet? To answer that question you must ask two more questions. What is a believer? And what is a poet? Let us consider these questions in the context of who Ahrend Walters is and what he is about.
A Believer
A believer is someone who puts their faith in something bigger than their own understanding. This can be a firm conviction in a religious faith or merely accepting as true and genuine an opinion about something. A believer will put their trust in what they accept as truth. A believer who is also a spiritual seeker discovers some things require faith and a willingness to believe in something beyond their own understanding.
A Poet
A poet is an artist and a writer who communicates a view and vision of life as they perceive it. They may use language that is simple or complex, whimsical or profound. A poet also possesses great imaginative and expressive capabilities and a special sensitivity to written words. Poets may play with words like a musician plays notes. Poets can be clowns or prophets; some are romantics, seers or satirists.

Here is an original poem by Ahrend Walters inspired by these children in need.(Note: this poem is in two columns - read left to right)
Words Of An Orphan
I'm sitting on a feeble branch
With dreams to be a blessing
From my life while hungry now
To help the children of despair
But I'm the child who's starving now
With dreams to cure diseased
I say a prayer so you may hear
It's yearning for a friend like you
|
so deprived and weak
which may never speak
I want to be of use
and those of abuse
for a helping hand
At A barren land
my thirsty heart in need
to help me plant the seed

His intent is to lead you into the mystery of God's great love. Do not expect his faith poems or his Christian poetry to be merely pious words or scripture wordplay. There is something more complex in his writings. His writings can be confusing and even paradoxical. They can also resonate within your heart and stir an awakening in your soul.
The Believer Poet does not trust in his own creativity. He knows that all creative artists - all creative geniuses - are flawed. No matter how talented they are they cannot reach perfection. Perfection only exists in the One who is perfect. God has gifted Ahrend Walters with the talent to write beautiful Christian poetry. His approach is unorthodox in that he is willing to let any flaws or imperfections point to the importance of striving for perfection through the inspiration he finds in God and Jesus Christ.
His poetry is unusual because he refuses to be restricted by grammar, rhyme or convention. His words are like a spontaneous prayer. Just as in life there is great mystery and often paradox, Ahrend Walters lets his poetry speak to you through the language of the heart.
